Does GW170814 rule out non-tensorial gravitational wave polarization?

چکیده

To determine the polarization character of gravitational waves, we use strain data from GW170814 binary black hole coalescence event detected by three LIGO-Virgo observatories, extracting wave signal amplitude ratios directly those data. Employing a geometric approach that links to properties, find there is range source sky locations, partially overlapping LIGI-Virgo 90% credible for which vector consistent with observed ratios. A Bayesian inference analysis indicates cannot rule out waves. Confirmation component waves would be sign post-general relativity physics.

Polarization Sagnac interferometer with postmodulation for gravitational-wave detection.

We describe a polarization Sagnac interferometer with an in-loop half-wave plate that allows signal detection at the reciprocal port of the beam splitter while maintaining the ability to detect the signal at a dark fringe. Postmodulation and balanced heterodyne detection are used to recover the signal. This topology is simple to control because of its common-path characteristics and its colline...

On Tensorial Concomitants and the Non-Existence of a Gravitational Stress-Energy Tensor†

Based on an analysis of what it may mean for one tensor to depend in the proper way on another, I prove that, under certain natural conditions, there can be no tensor whose interpretation could be that it represents gravitational stress-energy in general relativity. It follows that gravitational energy, such as it is in general relativity, is necessarily nonlocal. Along the way, I prove a resul...

Darwinian evolution does not rule out the gaia hypothesis.

This study explores so-called Darwinian Daisyworlds mathematically rigorously in detail. The original Daisyworld was introduced by Watson & Lovelock (1983) to demonstrate how two species of daisies regulate the global temperature of their planet through competition among these species against the rising solar luminosity, i.e. the Gaia hypothesis. Its variants are Darwinian Daisyworlds in which ...
